Horseshoe trailhead in Golden Gate Canyon State Park is one of the more diverse hikes I've done along the front range.
🏔️It's got streams, scrambling up rocks, big views of snow covered peaks, aspen meadows, and backcountry camping (permit required, call 1-800-244-5613) if you are feeling sleepy. ⛺️
🥾There's a great loop involving Black bear trail and Horseshoe trail, which is featured in the area map. We did just under 5 miles and 1,100ft of elevation gain.
The trail reaches a summit at mile 2.25. The trail opens up at Rim Meadow, providing views of Mount Evans and Golden Gate Canyon. Ends at the Mule Deer trail.
🚙The drive up is also real scenic and takes about an hour from Denver.
🚘Parking is limited, so you know the drill, head up early or later in the day to catch the sunset if you want to go on the weekend.

There is a small parking lot with bathrooms at the trailhead. There is additional parking at Round the Bend picnic area if you head northeast down the road.
