Tucked into the start of the Rocky Mountains at 5,420 feet, Horsetooth provides a lot of different terrain, so there is something for everyone from this trailhead. Keep in mind, a permit is required to enter.
The vertical gains on the hikes are relatively low, keeping them simple and fun. There's plenty of nature around and the views are huge! A good pair of hiking boots or trail running shoes is highly recommended for traction and comfort.
This open space is also known for Horsetooth Falls in the spring, and for tremendous Front Range views of Fort Collins and the surrounding area. Drinking water is available at the trailhead, but it's wise to bring your water bottle or hydration pack. Don't want to be thirsty at the top!
Large parking lot at the trailhead, but it does get crowded during the summer. Don't forget a permit is required to enter!
